A deciduous small shrub which grows up to a meter in height. Blooms in april and may. Fruits are round striped berries which can be yellow, green, red or white. They ripen in july or august. The taste is sweet and sour. It prefers moist and fertile land. Sensitive to high temperatures, so it may be best to plant it in a shaded, moist position. Pruning is important after a  years' harvest to keep the branches aerated and productive for the next fruiting season.
