Perennial with a soft trunk formed from the leaf stalks. Large light green leaves can grow up to 150 cm long and 30-40 cm wide. They decay in winter and regrow in spring. Blooming is in June and July. In tropical climates this plant bears banana fruits (actually berries), which need about 18 months to ripen.
